Picking Stores
How to Choose the Right Stores for In-Person Flips
Not all stores are created equal — choosing the right location can make or break your in-store sourcing runs. When planning which stores to visit, use the following criteria to maximize your time, effort, and chances of success:
1. Price (Look for 🔥 Icons)
Prioritize stores that show the lowest prices, especially those marked with the 🔥 icon. These are typically:
Clearance or deep-discount locations
Stores running regional markdowns
Hidden gem locations where few resellers are sourcing
Lower prices = higher margins, even on slower-moving products.
2. Stock Location (Know Where to Look)
Aisle Provided: If a product has a listed aisle location, it’s more likely to be on the shelf and ready to grab. These stores are your best bets for quick pickups.
Back Room Stock Only: These require a bit more effort. You’ll need to ask an employee or manager to check the back. While regular employees often decline or give vague answers, managers are more likely to assist and actually retrieve the item. Be polite, persistent, and respectful.
3. Quantity (The More, The Better)
3 or More Units: These stores are ideal. More units = better chances of finding the item in-stock and the ability to buy in bulk for higher profit.
Only 1 Unit Showing: Be cautious. Stores with a single unit in stock often show false positives due to:
Theft
Loss
Inventory miscounts These should be your lowest priority stops unless they’re close by or you’re already passing through.
Final Tip:
Plan your route around stores that check all three boxes: low prices, aisle availability, and 3+ units in stock. This saves time, cuts down on wasted gas, and increases your efficiency on sourcing runs.
